"Email Marketing Explained"

Key Resources for Further Study:

1) Subject Lines: "How to Get People to Open Your Email"

Here are some Subject lines I have used with good success:

Here’s the #1 rule for success in business

Are we meeting in Manhattan on Tuesday?

We’ll start tonight at 9:00 p.m. sharp

It ends at 10:00 p.m.

Here’s your free book on “How to Write Great Sales Letters”

Here’s something I thought your mom would like

There’s no reason to pay a website designer

Never pay for an ad again

Never make another sales call

I want you to fire your boss

Here’s how to turn your yearly pay into your daily pay

I apologize.

Oops, my mistake

Joe, I was thinking this might help you

Joe, does this describe your situation?

Do you see the pattern here?

The subject line needs to be intriguing. And there should be some payoff, some kind of benefit to opening the email, even if it’s just to satisfy curiosity.

3) The Two Email Marketing Systems I Use: www.aweber.com and www.iContact.com

Email is how you reach your opt-in subscribers with follow-up communications.  Overall, I like Aweber. It's cheap and has more functionality than iContact. Aweber is the best of the low-cost email marketing services.

But the big downside of Aweber is that if someone buys from you who is not already on your email list in Aweber's system, Aweber will require them to verify that they want to get emails from you before you can put these buyers on your Aweber list.  The result: 25% will not verify that they want to hear from you.  So you won't be able to communicate with 25% of your buyers (who are not already on your Aweber list).  That's very bad!!!

So that's why I'm using two email services -- each has their upsides and downsides.

Another email marketing system I am looking at closely is www.ExactTarget.com. I have not used it, but have heard good reports.

If you want a Ferrari-level service, www.CheetahMail.com might be the answer for you.  It has awesome tracking capabilities, but also has a gold-plated price tag. Many Fortune 500 companies use Cheetah Mail.
